Duan Ling, the son of a righteous sect leader, was forcibly taken into an evil cult at a young age. Despite his circumstances, he grew up exceptionally handsome and held deep values of relationships and righteousness.

Lu Xiuwen, a young master of the cult, was naturally arrogant and bossy. He relished in bullying Duan Ling, always displaying spitefulness and capriciousness.

When they meet again, despite the latter’s loss of martial arts and limited time, he still maintains that tormenting and reckless personality. What’s more, even those enchanting eyes carry an unfathomable mystery…

The unsettled remnants in the martial world are still filled with danger, and Duan Ling begins to feel that perhaps he never truly understood Lu Xiuwen. Lu Xiuwen speaks vexing words, wears an annoying smile, and doesn’t care about other people’s lives or even his own, but why does he still risk everything just to… protect him?

What sets this manga apart from any of the previous Kanon adaptations so far? Well, judging by the cover of the manga, the answer might seem straightforward. But let's not jump to conclusions—we've all been misled before!

Not today, my friends. This manga is practically a standalone version of the Kanon series. The story arcs for the girls extend beyond those in the original visual novel, with some parts even taking a completely different direction. It goes without saying that having prior knowledge of the Kanon universe will greatly enhance your experience while reading this manga.

Of course, that’s not the main reason why this manga stands out. Finally, Kanon's own Minase Nayuki gets her full story arc told! That's right, folks—the character who has often been overlooked in the series now takes center stage! Not only does she get an entire arc, but an entire volume as well (out of two volumes).

I'm genuinely disappointed by how underappreciated this great Kanon adaptation/alternate universe remains. With so many adaptations in the past, I'd argue that this one rivals even Kyoto Animation's take on the series.

As I write this review, only Nayuki's arc has been partially translated. And since this is also shameless self-promotion, feel free to check out my profile for download links. I hope that after reading the scanlated version, you, the reader, will come to appreciate this beautifully crafted story—especially for a character who has always been overshadowed by that infamous ~uguu girl.

I enjoy reading weak to strong characters but having them stay with the same mindset from since the beginning of the story (Keeps underestimating themselves or whatever) completely ruins it. I can’t handle that for the whole half of the book.

I'm really disappointed. Everyone in this story is shockingly stupid. They swing their swords whenever they get the chance, without thinking about the consequences.
Most of the plot could have been resolved or avoided entirely if the characters were smarter.
